Numbers can be written in two ways:
- In figures (digits) → Example: 25
- In words → Example: Twenty-five
Numbers from 1 to 20 have special names:
- 1 → One
- 2 → Two
- 3 → Three
- …
- 10 → Ten
- 11 → Eleven
- 12 → Twelve
- …
- 20 → Twenty
Tens (30, 40, 50 … 100) have special names too:
- 30 → Thirty
- 40 → Forty
- 50 → Fifty
- 60 → Sixty
- 70 → Seventy
- 80 → Eighty
- 90 → Ninety
- 100 → One hundred
Numbers between tens are written as:
- Tens word + Ones word
- Example:
- 21 → Twenty-one
- 36 → Thirty-six
- 49 → Forty-nine
- 58 → Fifty-eight
- 72 → Seventy-two
Hyphen (-) is used between the tens and ones for numbers 21–99 (except multiples of ten).
- Example:
- 64 → Sixty-four
- 87 → Eighty-seven
