How many problems did Chad do in all?
Add the numbers of problems.
6 + 2 + 8
Hint: Start by adding two of the numbers to make a 10.
First, add 2 and 8 to make a 10:
6 + 2 + 8 = ?
6 + 10 = ?
Now add 6 and 10:
6 + 10 = 16
The sum is 16.
Chad did 16 problems in all.
In Steve’s bag of marbles there are 7 green marbles, 2 blue marbles, and 5 red marbles.
How many marbles are in Steve’s bag?
Add the number of marbles.
7 + 2 + 5
First, add 7 and 2:
7 + 2 + 5 = ?
9 + 5 = ?
Now add 9 and 5:
9 + 5 = 14
The sum is 14.
