Class-2 Topic: Form Compound Words by Delta publications
What are Compound Words?

Think of it like building with LEGOs! You take two LEGO bricks and snap them together to make something new. Compound words are the same! We take two words and put them together to make a new word.

Easy Examples of Compound Words
Sun + Flower = Sunflower (a tall yellow flower)

Rain + Bow = Rainbow (a colorful arc in the sky after rain)

Foot + Ball = Football (a game played with a ball and feet)

Pop + Corn = Popcorn (a snack made from corn kernels)

Butter + Fly = Butterfly (a colorful flying insect)

Tooth + Brush = Toothbrush (used to clean your teeth)

Star + Fish = Starfish (a sea animal shaped like a star)

Pancake (Pan + Cake) = A flat cake cooked in a pan.

Playground (Play + Ground) = A place for kids to play.

Doghouse (Dog + House) = a house for a dog.
Why Do We Use Compound Words?

Compound words help us be more creative and make our language more interesting! Instead of saying ‘a flower that looks like the sun,’ we can just say ‘sunflower’! It’s shorter and easier.

Let’s practice!
