What are Synonyms? |
Synonyms are words that have almost the same meaning. They are like friends that mean the same thing! Learning synonyms helps us use more interesting words when we talk and write.
For example:
- Happy and Joyful are synonyms.
- Big and Large are synonyms.
- Small and Tiny are synonyms.
Finding Synonyms in a Sentence |
Sometimes, we can find synonyms by looking at how a word is used in a sentence. This is called finding synonyms in context. Let’s look at some examples:
Example 1:
The cat is glad that it caught the mouse. The cat is also happy about it.
In this sentence, glad and happy are synonyms because they both mean the cat feels good.
Example 2:
The little bird flew away. The bird was very small.
Here, little and small are synonyms. They both describe the bird’s size.
