Identify homophones

Class 2: Topic: Identify Homophones by Delta publications

Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings and sometimes different spellings! It’s like they’re twins with different jobs.

Let’s look at some examples:

see โ€“ sea two โ€“ too โ€“ to
See – To look with your eyes๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

Example: I see a bird.

Sea – A large body of water

Example: The sea is blue.๐ŸŒŠ
Two – The number 2

Example: I have two apples.

Too – Also or very

Example: I want to go too!๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธ

To – Towards

Example: I am going to school.โžก๏ธ
HereHear OneWon
Here – In this place

Example: Come here, please.
Hear – To listen with your ears

Example: I can hear a song.
One – The number 1

Example: I have one toy.

Won – To win

Example: I won the race!
flower โ€“ flourbear โ€“ bare
Flower = plant bloom๐ŸŒธ

Flour = powder used for making bread๐Ÿž
Bear = an animal

Bare = without covering

Knowing homophones helps us understand what we read and write! If we use the wrong homophone, our sentences might not make sense. For example, if you wrote “I want to sea the bird,” it would sound funny because you can’t look at something with the sea!

  • I can see๐Ÿ‘๏ธ a ship on the sea.๐ŸŒŠ
  • The sun๐ŸŒž is bright. My son ๐Ÿ‘ฆlikes to play.
  • She bought two apples to eat, and I got one too.
  • The bear has thick fur. My feet are bare.
  • A red flower ๐ŸŒธgrows. We make bread ๐Ÿžwith flour.

Let’s practice! Choose the correct homophone to complete each sentence:

  1. I want to (to/too) go to the park (to/too).
  2. Can you (see/sea) the boat on the (see/sea)?
  3. I (hear/here) a bird singing (hear/here).
  4. I (one/won) a prize! I have (one/won) new friend.
  5. I have (two/to/too) many books! I need (two/to/too) read them all. Let’s go (two/to/too) the library.
