Types of Sentences
Statement (Declarative Sentence):
- A statement tells something.
- It ends with a period (.)
- Example: “The cat is sleeping.”
Question (Interrogative Sentence):
- A question asks something.
- It ends with a question mark (?)
- Example: “What time is it?”
Command (Imperative Sentence):
- A command tells someone to do something.
- It usually ends with a period (.) but can also end with an exclamation mark (!) if it’s a strong command.
- Example: “Please close the door.” or “Stop that!”
Exclamation (Exclamatory Sentence):
- An exclamation expresses strong feelings or emotions.
- It ends with an exclamation mark (!)
- Example: “Wow, that’s amazing!”
Identifying Sentence Types
- Look at the punctuation at the end of the sentence.
- Determine the purpose of the sentence:
- Inform or tell something (Statement)
- Ask a question (Question)
- Give an order or request (Command)
- Show emotion or excitement (Exclamation)
