To be: use the correct present tense form

  • The verb “to be” shows existence or identity.
  • It has different forms in the present tense: am, is, and are.

  • I am: Used with the subject “I.”
    • Example: “I am happy.”
  • He is: Used with singular male subjects (he, a boy).
    • Example: “He is my friend.”
  • She is: Used with singular female subjects (she, a girl).
    • Example: “She is a teacher.”
  • It is: Used with singular non-human subjects (it, an object or animal).
    • Example: “It is a sunny day.”
  • We are: Used with plural subjects (we).
    • Example: “We are going to the park.”
  • They are: Used with plural subjects (they).

  • Use am only with “I.”
  • Use is with singular subjects: he, she, it.
