An opinion is what you believe, think or feel about something. You can show your opinion when you write.

First, give your opinion. Next, support your opinion with a reason. A good reason tells why you have the opinion. Then, give an example. A good example supports your reason.

London is the best city to visit because there are many things to do there. For example, you can walk around Piccadilly Circus or see a West End show.

Learn with an example

Cows are great because _______. For example,  we can make cheese or butter from cow’s milk.

  • they always smell terrible
  • they make milk that we can use

This reason tells why cows are great:

They make milk that we can use.

So, it supports the opinion. It also works with the example. The example tells readers how we can use milk.

A bright yellow sun rises in an orange sky. Around it, the hills and trees have turned different shades of purple.

I love to watch the sunrise because __________.  For example, the sky becomes bright orange,  yellow and red during the sunrise .

  • looking at the sun is bad for your eyes
  • the sky turns beautiful colours

This reason tells why the writer loves to watch the sunrise:

The sky turns beautiful colours.

So, it supports the opinion. It also works with the example. The example tells readers the colours of the sky during the sunrise.

A white cake is decorated with colourful flowers and lit candles.

Cake is better than ice cream because _______.  For example, I can eat cake even when it’s cold outside .

  • I always eat ice cream on my birthday
  • I can eat it in all types of weather

This reason tells why the writer likes cake better than ice cream:

So, it supports the opinion. It also works with the example. The example tells readers about when the writer eats cake.
