🎯 What Does “Balance Equations” Mean?

  • A balanced equation is like a seesaw ⚖️—both sides must be equal.
  • Whatever is on the left side = right side.

➕⚖️ Key Points to Remember

1️⃣ Both sides must have the same total

Example:
8 + 4 = 12 and 6 + 6 = 12
So,
👉 8 + 4 = 6 + 6 ✔️

2️⃣ You can change the numbers, but NOT the total

If one side is 10, the other side must also be 10.
Example:
7 + 3 = 9 + 1

3️⃣ Use number bonds to find missing numbers 🔢🎈

If:
5 + ___ = 11
Think:
11 – 5 = 6
So the missing number is 6.

4️⃣ Use addition facts you already know 🧠✨

  • Doubles facts: 6 + 6, 7 + 7
  • Make 10 facts: 8 + 2, 9 + 1

These help balance equations faster!

5️⃣ Check by adding both sides again ✔️

After solving, add both sides to make sure they match.
If they do ➡️ Balanced!
If not ➡️ Fix it! 🔧

6️⃣ Order does NOT matter in addition 🔄

4 + 7 = 7 + 4
This helps balance equations easily!

🌈 Examples

✔️ Balanced

9 + 3 = 10 + 2 🎉
Both sides = 12

❌ Not Balanced

7 + 5 ≠ 6 + 4
Left = 12, Right = 10

Quick Tips for Students

  • Count on your fingers ✋🤚
  • Use a number line 📏
  • Break apart numbers (10 + 2) 🎯
  • Always check both sides ⚖️
