Measure using objects
Hello Kids! π
Today, weβre going to learn about a fun way to measure things using objects we find around us. This is called measuring with non-standard units. Let’s find out how it works!
What is Measuring Using Objects? π€
- Measuring with Objects: Instead of using rulers or scales, we can measure things with everyday objects like paperclips, blocks, or even our own feet!
- Non-Standard Units: These objects are called non-standard units because they aren’t the same for everyone, but they can still help us understand size and length.

How to Measure Using Objects:
- Choose Your Object: Pick something to measure with, like a paperclip, a block, or your hand.
- Line Them Up: Place the objects end-to-end next to the thing you want to measure. Make sure there are no gaps and they don’t overlap.
- Count Them: Count how many objects you used to measure the length or height.

Examples:
- Measuring a Pencil: Use paperclips. If the pencil is 5 paperclips long, you can say the pencil is “5 paperclips long.”
- Measuring a Book: Use blocks. If the book is 3 blocks tall, you can say the book is “3 blocks tall.”
- Measuring Your Desk: Use your hands. If your desk is 6 hands wide, you can say the desk is “6 hands wide.”
Why is Measuring with Objects Fun and Helpful?
- It’s Easy: You don’t need special tools, just things you already have.
- It’s Creative: You can use different objects and compare measurements in a fun way.
- It’s a Great Start: It helps you understand the basics of measuring before you use standard tools like rulers and tape measures.
