Measure using objects

🔹 What is Measuring?

  • Measuring means finding how long, tall, or heavy something is.
  • We can measure using everyday objects instead of rulers.

🔹 Non-Standard Units

Objects like:

  • 🧊 cubes
  • ✋ hand spans
  • 👣 footsteps
  • 🖍 pencils

These are called non-standard units.

🔹 How to Measure Using Objects

Place the object end to end without gaps.

Count how many objects fit along the length.

Example:

  • The table is 5 pencils long.

🔹 Important Rules

  • Use the same object for measuring.
  • Do not leave spaces between objects.
  • Do not overlap the objects.
  • Start measuring from the same point (zero/start line).

🔹 Comparing Lengths

Use words like:

  • Longer / Shorter
  • Taller / Shorter
  • More / Less

Example:

  • The rope is longer than the book.

🔹 Why Use Objects?

  • Helps children understand measurement easily.
  • Makes learning fun and practical.

🔹 Fun Classroom Activities 🎲

  • Measure your desk using erasers.
  • Measure the classroom using footsteps.
  • Compare lengths of books using pencils.

🔹 Simple Example

  • A book = 4 cubes long
  • A pencil = 6 cubes long
👉 So, the pencil is longer.
