What Are Bones?
- Bones are hard parts inside our bodies that help us stay upright and move around.
- They make up our skeleton.
Functions of Bones:

- Support: Bones help hold up our body and give it shape.
- Protection: Bones protect our organs. For example, the skull protects the brain.
- Movement: Bones work with muscles to help us move. When muscles pull on bones, we can walk, run, and play.
- Production: Bones help make blood cells inside the bone marrow.
Different Types of Bones:

- Long Bones: Like the bones in our arms and legs.
- Short Bones: Like those in our hands and feet.
- Flat Bones: Like the bones in our skull and ribs.
- Irregular Bones: Like the bones in our spine.
How Bones Grow:
- Bones start out soft and become harder as we grow.
- Kids’ bones are more flexible than adults’ bones.
Taking Care of Our Bones:
- Eat Healthy Foods: Foods like milk, cheese, and yogurt help keep bones strong.
- Exercise: Activities like running and jumping help make bones strong.
- Avoid Injuries: Be careful while playing to avoid hurting your bones.
Fun Facts:
- Babies are born with about 270 bones, but some of them fuse together as they grow. Adults have 206 bones.
- The smallest bone in the body is in the ear, and it’s called the stapes bone.
